i feel like i might, eventually, have more commentary on this subject. but for now, i'm just thinking about these things:
hap·py
Pronunciation: \ˈha-pē\
Function: adjective
1: favored by luck or fortune 2: notably fitting, effective, or well adapted 3 enjoying or characterized by well-being and contentment; expressing, reflecting, or suggestive of happiness; glad, pleased; having or marked by an atmosphere of good fellowship
joy
Pronunciation: \ˈjoi\
Function: noun
1: the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires; the expression or exhibition of such emotion 2: a state of happiness or felicity 3: a source or cause of delight
did you know that 'happy' only appears 21 times, and 'joy' appears 242 times in the Bible? did you know that Jesus never used the word happy, but often talked about joy?
today i am feeling happy based on some nice things i have heard. but today i am feeling joy because i know my Creator and my Savior.
happy is important. happy is nice. happy is temporal and conditional.
joy is essential. joy is real. joy is eternal and is not dependent on anything in this world-- it must come from faith that there is more than what is happening around me.
are you happy or joyful today? or both? or neither? why?

Spring Break, Powerball, & St. Patricks Day
This week is my spring break. I am spending my time relaxing, getting some much needed things done around the house, and not missing my middle school buttfaces not very much. I do mean the term buttfaces to be endearing. I love my kids, but we have hit the time in the year that I just need a break from them, and they need a break from me. Spring break is such an essential part of school, especially middle school.
I kicked off my spring break on Saturday by buying the first Powerball ticket of my whole life. I don't really know why I have not purchased one before now, but I am glad that I bought one on Saturday. I WON! It was only $4 but a win is a win. I matched the Powerball number and one other number. I didn't know that you could win smaller prizes to help recoup money spent. I thought before Saturday that you either won millions or you ripped up your tickets in a fit of saddness. I was happy find out that smaller prizes are not only available, but they are not that out of the ordinary in powerball. You have a 1:30ish chance to win the smallest prize. That is not terrible. I figured that now that I am not a Powerball virgin, I will play the game on an occasional basis. Especially when the prize gets real big. Maybe I will win millions and buy you a new car!
Today is St. Patricks Day! Make sure to go to the store and take advantages of the great deals on Guinness! When I was checking my blogs this morning (I have started using News Gator again...see this old post) I saw the following two articles about St. Patrick's Day on a blog called Mental Floss. Check them out!

germs
HELLO, GOD AND JUNIOR HIGH STUDENTS WHO DO NOT USE GENERAL GOOD HYGIENE RECOMMENDATIONS? DO YOU REMEMBER THAT I WAS JUST SICK?
on this, the last day of my stomach bug (please God let it be the last day for real) that i received from some over-generous junior high germs, i leave you with a list.
1. ick.
2. i am so glad i clean my toilets regularly.
3. G2 and oyster crackers are a fabulous meal, even if they wouldn't sustain me during a real day.
4. props go to: fry's food for having a sale on many illness-related items, one of our high school leaders for donating hand sanitizer to my cause, Brian for remembering that i need ginger ale when i'm sick, my boss for forcing me to stay home when i didn't want to, and my senior girls for leading our small group while i couldn't be there Wednesday night. OH, and various cable tv networks for constantly giving me episodes of Law and Order: SVU to distract me. thank you, thank you very much.
5. (NO i am not pregnant.) (I AM SERIOUS!)
the end.
