electronical changes

Last night, Amy and I succumbed to the electronic addiction that plagues us. We both started twitter accounts. We have been trying for so long to not start another time sucking internet thing, but it just seems like it would be very fun.... Have you ever had a moment when you realized you own geekiness... that just happened to me.

For those of you who aren't up to speed on twittering... It is a site that allows you to update what you are doing in a short text message format, similar to facebook status and instant messaging away messages, these are called tweets. Then, you who love us and want to know what we are doing can go to our twitter pages and see what we have been up to recently today. You can update these tweets through the website or by sending a text message to your twitter account. We will also be able to update twitters with pictures from the iPhone... hopefully that will be pretty cool!

Our twitter pages are:
www.twitter.com/brianderson
www.twitter.com/amy_kay
(ps don't mention to amy that it is annoying that there is an underscore in her twitter name...she wasn't happy about the name she wanted not being availible)

This actually seems like it will be a fun way for us to update what we are doing on a quicker more efficient basis, and it will also allow us to fill in the gaps that are missed by our blog. For those of you who love to know what we are doing at any given moment.... moms I am talking to you... this should be another couple of websites that you can bookmark and see what we are doing.

The other cool thing that you can do it follow other people on twitter. I am currently following a news site, dave matthews, a guy in california that we know, and amy. If you were to start a twitter site (which is very simple) you could follow us. It is either an awesome way to keep up with things that your loved ones are up to, or a really creepy 21st century way of stalking someone. So that is twitter and we are now using it so check it regularly and see what we are up to.

In other electronical news, I have blogged here before about using a blog reader called News Gator to check all of the blogs and news things that we read in a day. Today, I have decided to discontinue my use of the blog reader for the following reason.... When I don't read blogs they remain unread in the reader. The reader then assigns a number to how many blogs I haven't read. As I fall further and further behind reading blogs, the number grows higher ang higher. I am finding that this number of unread blogs is becoming oppressive. It is pressuring me to read when I don't want to read some of them.... then I have to make a decisions... do I just highlight a bunch and click "mark as read" ??? Then I feel worse beause I have not read them, but I told the reader that I did read them. It is all just too much for me to handle.

I just reccomended a friend of ours, Dan, to start using News Gator. I told him that it would further his blog addiction to a degree that he might not want. He decided to go through with it and do it... I hope that he does not feel the weight on his back that I did from the reader.

It feels good to get that off my chest.

My nerdiness amazes even me sometimes. Hope your day is going awesome!

UPDATE:
Our twitters are linked on the right side and will show our most recent tweets. You can click on our names to go to our twitter pages. To read all of the most recent tweets.

I must first make clear that I am currently writing this response (and hence reading your blog) on the News Gator program. Obviously, I took the plunge.

And I have to add: I'm glad for it. I can understand your reservations. It is sometimes daunting, especially with one blog to which I subscribe: "God's Politics." There are easily a dozen new posts each day. Tough to keep up, but unlike you, Brian, I don't have much of a problem clicking the "Mark All as Read" button if I don't feel up to it.

What the News Gator HAS done for me is keep me in touch with blogs that I often lose track of. For instance, an old friend of mine, Elizabeth Brzeski (whom you both know), has a blog, and I alwasy forget to check hers. Not any more, however! She's on my subscriptions, and I'm an active reader now.

All thanks to Banderson! I'll let you know when it becomes too much for me!

Dan

by all means, keep up your use of news gator. I am actually wondering now, while checking blogs, if I made a good decision. It was nice that with a quick glance I saw if there were new ones to read. Perhaps I will revisit News Gator after a siesta and only add blogs I really care about. It was really only the superfluous ones that were weighing me down.
